• Inness Accord, NY

A fall intimate wedding for forty in the Catskills at a home-away-from-home property called Inness in Accord, New York. In homage to the proposal story, this wedding included meticulously curated details with velvet linens, intricate hand-tied bows and Japanese porcelain. Remarkably, despite the rain, the evening ended in a beautiful double rainbow.

THE VISION

Oddly, designing my own wedding flowers felt like embarking on a journey into the unknown. I began with a few adjectives in mind to characterize the vision - moody, earthy, and immersive. When contemplating the inspiration behind the vision, I wanted the design to look and feel intimately connected to our surroundings at Inness, with flowers that appeared as if they were freshly picked from the side of the road.

THE CEREMONY

As a wedding florist, my vision was to connect the ceremony flowers with our immediate surroundings of Inness and the scenic views having an upstate wedding has to offer. After discovering the same seasonal landscaping foliage at a local nursery, we sourced potted plants to use as a rich, burgundy-contrast color, with leaves that looked and felt like velvet. We mixed hundreds of stems of smoke bush, springeri, bear grass, and foliage that appeared as shrubbery to create an earthy pathway to line the continuous ceremony aisle arrangements. Instead of using traditional wedding flowers, we leaned heavily into tiny, densely petaled delicate blooms - local lisianthus, chocolate lace, blush nerine and lavender delphinium. Our ceremony at Inness was originally designed to take place within their ‘ceremony circle’, but due to the rain Diwan by Design, my wedding planner, decided the morning of to pivot to the Inness Event Barn. To enhance the indoor wedding ceremony surroundings within the Inness Event Barn, as part of our rain plan, we lined the aisle with luxurious event carpeting to integrate the sense of a home away from home.

COCKTAIL HOUR

Determined to turn the experience into something intimately meaningful, I collaborated closely with my planner, Sneh of Diwan by Design, to kick it off with a bottle of Dom Perignon and a five-tier champagne tower. We dressed the table with a Nuage beige velvet linen, styled with clusters of fresh organic grapes adorned with hand-tied satin bows - a detail that has firmly solidified my coquettish obsession with hand-tied anything. After our first toast in the Inness Event Barn, we had our first dance to the Bee Gees “More Than A Woman” with our dog - a video that has since gone viral.

RECEPTION

Rectangular tables were arranged in long extended rows to transition the reception space in the Inness Restaurant Lounge into an inviting and communal atmosphere. Each guest’s wine glass was adorned with a black picot-edge satin ribbon in a hand-tied bow to match the DIY’d velvet trimmed menus - a refined and meticulously curated detail. Ikebana inspired arrangements, with tiny oncidium orchids as a symbol of prosperity, danced along the tables in a base of smokebush, pieris and edible tomatillo vines. The centerpieces, designed in Japanese Hasami porcelain bowls, were a homage to my husbands obsession with its signature color and tactile feel.

THANK YOUS

While it may seem as if I had designed this experience on my own, I owe immense gratitude to my team of talented designers who played a pivotal role in bringing what I had only envisioned in my dreams to reality. While they never cease to impress me, on a day as special as my own, I was absolutely floored by their selfless artistry. I also want to extend gratitude to my team of talented vendors who worked tirelessly despite the rain. Thank you to my wedding planner, the master of bows, and my incredibly talented wedding photographer for being unwavering beacons of support through the planning process.
